Celexa has been shown to cause some side effects. Talk to your health care provider if these reactions do not disappear within a few days or become severe.
Common side effects reported from Celexa use:
This is not a complete list of adverse reactions. If you experience difficulty breathing, unusual bleeding or bruising, chest pain, a skin rash, hives, fever, joint pain, muscle stiffness, swelling, seizures, hallucinations, hoarseness, or changes in your heart rate while taking Celexa, seek medical attention immediately.
Antidepressant drugs like Celexa increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so patients taking Celexa should be monitored for the emergence or worsening of depression, suicidal thoughts or behaviors, or unusual changes in mood or behavior.
As with all prescription medications, inform the prescribing doctor about any medical conditions you have been diagnosed with and any medications or supplements you currently take before starting treatment with Celexa. Celexa can interact with other medicines and substances, causing potentially serious side effects. Before beginning treatment with Celexa, let your doctor know if you are pregnant or are planning on becoming pregnant.
told resonanceWhile treatment with Celexa is generally welltdated, epidemiology does not prove that people taking the drug are at increased risk for suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Additionally, the effectiveness of Celexa in treating depression in adolescents and adults suggests that other antidepressants, particularly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Prozac, desvenloxapine, and sertraline, may be more effective in treating depression. However, the effectiveness of Celexa in treating anxiety in adults and adolescents and the effectiveness of Celexa in treating depression in adults have not been studied. Therefore, this medication should only be used as an adjunct to other treatments that are not considered effective in treating depression.
If you take Celexa and experience any side effects, it is important to contact the doctor immediately. These include nausea, fatigue, dizziness, anxiety, depression, and changes in mood or behavior. Healthcare providers may adjust treatment settings or recommend alternative treatments.
Because treatment with Celexa is not 100% effective, it is essential to uniformize the dosage and monitor for symptoms of depression, suicidal thoughts or behaviors, and breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cause of mental health claims for Celexa, but other causes can occur such as a genetic disorder, stroke, blood clots, blood clots in the brain, liver disease, or cancer of the breast. Patients should promptly report to their doctor any changes in mood or behavior that persist or worsen.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. If you become pregnant, let the FDA know about this medication as soon as possible. When not, speak with your doctor about taking this medication again.
The FDA has determined that they may recommend using Celexa at a low dose during pregnancy, based on the patient’s response to the medication and the extent of the side effects. The lowest effective dose should be used throughout the pregnancy. Oral contraceptives are not recommended during pregnancy, as the birth control methods may interfere with the birth control. Some medical conditions may also interact with Celexa, including bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and liver disease. Patients should discuss their treatment plan with their doctor before taking Celexa. Some people may experience nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea when taking Celexa. Patients should contact their doctor if they experience severe side effects or have new or worsening symptoms.

I am a 33-year-old woman with a family of four in the United States. I started taking citalopram (Celexa), and I am now on Celexa and I am very pleased with my experience. I have heard a lot about Celexa and Lexapro but am not sure how I should use these. I have tried several different things, and I have read in other reviews that they work better for some people than others. My husband was not happy at the treatment, but he was happy with it. I have also heard that Lexapro (escitalopram) has the same side effects as citalopram (Celexa).
My doctor has stated that I should not take any medications that contain Celexa or Lexapro, as they may cause side effects such as increased heart rate, and weight gain, which can be serious. I am now on Celexa and I am happy with how things were for my husband and I. We have been having trouble sleeping (I sleep a little bit more, but I always wake up in the middle of the night and wake up in the middle of the night), but I am so tired that I can’t fall asleep until the next day, so I can’t take either medication. I have also heard that Lexapro (escitalopram) can cause more side effects, such as mood swings, anxiety, decreased appetite, etc. So I am not sure if this is true or not, but I am not sure how to use it. The only way I have found that I can take the medication that is supposed to be taken with Celexa (escitalopram) is with my husband. He is on Lexapro and he is happy with it. I have also heard that Lexapro (escitalopram) can be used with other antidepressants, such as, Zoloft, and Paxil, but this is different from what I have been using.

are an antidepressant that works well for you if you’re experiencing the symptoms of depression and anxiety. They can also help with some of the other symptoms you may feel if you’re with someone else.
Celexa (citalopram) is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These medications try to restore the balance of a certain natural substance citalopram that has left the brain not fully open to sexual activity. Celexa also works differently than other antidepressants because it works in a different way.
When taking Celexa and other antidepressants, it’s important to keep a list of all the medications you are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. This can help prevent side effects or decrease the effectiveness of the medication.
Don’t take Celexa with:
The FDA previously approved Celexa as an MAOI. But MAOIs can interact with Celexa and can cause serious side effects, including increased risk of serious side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and trouble sleeping.
Some medicines can affect how Celexa is metabolized by your liver. This can increase how effectively Celexa is metabolized by your liver. You should always tell your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines, linezolid, or methylene blue. MAOIs can increase your risk of getting a dangerous condition called serotonin syndrome. This is a serious condition that can damage your brain and lead to damage that affects your heart and brain. Call your doctor for medical help if you have symptoms of a serious condition like serotonin syndrome while taking Celexa. A dangerous drug interaction could happen if you take Celexa with a MAOI.
Tell your doctor if you are taking escitalopram (Somac) or fluoxetine (Prozac), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). These medications all have their uses. Celexa may also interact with these medications so it is important to tell your doctor if you are taking any of these medications, including Prozac, Celexa, Seroquel, and Seroquel XR. An MAOI can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome while you are taking Celexa. A dangerous drug interaction could happen if you take Celexa with MAOIs or with SNRIs.
Other medicines you may be taking while you are taking Celexa include:
When taking Celexa and other antidepressants, it may be helpful for you to know when to start. In some cases, you may be able to benefit from a higher dose of Celexa or a lower dose of the medication. These are some of the side effects that may be experienced when taking Celexa and other antidepressants.
ByI’m currently on the pill and I’m hoping this is the last of the weeks. I’m a bit nervous about this because I am having trouble keeping up with the daily life, so I was excited to see how this medication would impact the daily life. I did some reading online, and the research and trials are all good!
So here’s what I’ve read. I’m trying to keep up with the daily life by spending time with friends and family. I’m still in the midst of my work life, so I’m having trouble maintaining my social life in the normal way. I’m hoping to be able to keep this up for the week, but that will take some work!
This is my last week and I’m feeling much better. I’m feeling great, but it’s also starting to feel a bit sluggish. I feel like I’ve already done a lot of reading and it’s not quite as big as I was hoping. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been feeling really good, but it’s still starting to feel good.
I know it can be a little frustrating, but I just want to feel normal!
I’ve been on celexa for a couple of years now and it’s working well, but the side effects have been a bit of a challenge. I’ve had to put a lot of thought into it, which is kind of like a roller coaster.
I’m still feeling a little sluggish, but I’m starting to feel better. I’m getting a little drowsy and still feeling a little sleepy. I’m having some dry skin but still feeling a bit lightheaded. I feel a little lightheaded after the first few days, but I can’t seem to get to sleep.
So what do I do? I’m trying to be proactive and keep it up. I know I’ve probably been feeling pretty good in the last few weeks, but it’s starting to feel a bit sluggish, so I’m going to take a break and then see what happens. I’ll be getting back to feeling more like myself, but I’ll be getting back to feeling good again. I’ll be able to enjoy all the activities and be able to enjoy my time with my friends, so that may be the difference. I’ll be able to relax in the mornings, just a little bit.
My question is, does celexa help with anxiety or depression? I’ve been trying to think of it as a “help” thing, but it’s definitely helping. I don’t think I’ll ever get a dose of celexa without it. It will only be an hour or two before I go back to bed. I think it’s going to take time to work out how long I can take it, so I’m hoping it’s working, and I’ll see how it goes.
I think the only thing I’m thinking of is a change in the way I feel. I’ve been feeling pretty good on Celexa, but it’s starting to feel a little drowsy, so I’m hoping to get back to feeling as much as I’ve ever felt before.
I’m going to keep feeling good. I just need to be able to do a little bit of sleep for a little while.
Thanks for the replies!
DaphneDianneGood evening!
Good evening and thanks for the replies!I think celexa is helpful for people who feel like they have more than one of their anxiety symptoms, or depressive symptoms. I also think it helps for people who are depressed when they first start taking medication.
I think the only thing that can help me is to go back to my regular life and be in the right place at the right time. I’ve been on it for a couple of months, but I’m still feeling really tired. My energy levels have dropped a little but still feel great. My mood is still depressed.
